A Brand new Blush!!!

HI Everyone

It has been a long time since my last post on here…I have been so busy.  I have made a lot of changes to Blush Premier Makeup Artists in the last 6 months.  Specifically, the biggest change is that I assumed sole proprietorship of the company and have since added on a team of brilliantly talented artists and hair stylists.  They are each amazing people and incredibly gifted in their fields.  I feel honored to have them aboard.

I have also been blessed enough to meet up with some very talented photographers from the LA area who have decided to mentor me and help bring my skills and abilities to a whole new level.  I am so lucky to have their input in my life and in my profession.

Let me introduce you to my new team….

Arienne White (first photo) is an amazing makeup artist and hair stylist, Julie Ruckman (2nd photo) is a gifted hair stylist, Sunny Fire is wonderful mua, and Nanette Marx (4th image) is new to the makeup side but has been doing incredible hair for years.

Beauty Shots

I have been working with one of my favorite  photographers,Pete Springer for a few years now and my new agency has not been very fond of any of the beauty shots taken.  Today things changed.  They not only liked the beauty shots but actually added them to my file.  My agent feels I have much stronger images in my port but I was pleased she finally saw some redemptive stuff from this photographer.

These are some shots of a girl named Haydn. She has just signed with an “agency” here in town. I say that in quotes because the “agency” is not a real agency and charges a ton of money to get started. I was sad when I heard her mom tell me all the stories they told this girl and all the promises they made that will never happen.

Needless to say, these images are a huge improvement over ones in the past and I was delighted to have them added to my file. I would so love to see this photographer succeed and if not here, then somewhere else.

Head shots and not so good models

I have been doing tons of headshots the last few weeks and have been enjoying the process. I worked with a photographer friend of mine, Pete Springer, a few weeks ago and we were both excited to work with this model from Mode. She’s african american which delighted me since I desperately need women of color in my book.

Since she was from Mode, I expected her to walk in and deliver her “A Game” meaning some stellar modeling. Not so much…. Even though we changed hair and makeup repeatedly, we basically got one look for the whole day. I was so disappointed to say the least…

The New Wave of Photoshop….

So one of the photographers I work with, Pete Springer, showed me a new photo editing program he has. You select an image and you mark the main features and then the program basically uses an algorithm and changes to the face to meet society’s conception of “beauty.” I was amazed when I saw it in action and promptly sent over my picture to be analyzed.

The program didn’t make too many changes… it basically spaced my eyes a little further apart and gave me a more rounded chin. I didn’t notice much change in my nose which is my least favorite feature I might add. I was pleased it didn’t touch my lips or my eye shape. It did, however, get a little crazy on the skin smoothing.

Apparently, another program is soon to follow that will do the same thing with the body. We will all then be able to have longer, thinner legs and bigger breasts… all with just a click.

I’m not sure what I think of it to be honest… a little eerie. Isn’t it our individuality, our unique features, what makes us beautiful? Are we really all supposed to look “perfect” like dolls? I don’t think so…

Wow… It has been a long time since I have updated this blog. I get so busy…being busy…that this is forgotten. I have vowed to update this at least once a week now.

I’m so incredibly excited to announce that Blush Premier Makeup Artists has gotten a brand new “makeover”. A new web site, with a new look, and a new feel. Its simply lovely!!

Oregon Seafood and Wine Festival

The other week we had the privilege of being invited to participate in the Oregon Seafood and Wine Fest. Nicolle Camarata of Nicolle Shops Portland was one of the sponsors and we were a part of her pavilion along with several local boutiques and designers.

The highlight of our time (other than the amazing clam chowder from Typhoon) was the fashion show, which Nicolle emceed, on Saturday. We were able to do a fun makeup project on Wilhelmina models Kendall and Britney and send them down the runway showcasing our makeup in the morning show. Terri and I even got to model in the evening show. I think it was a first and last opportunity for the both of us. I know that I personally much prefer to stay BEHIND the scenes!!

The Art of Tagging and Makeup

My favorite photographer, Pete Springer,
 sent me an email the other day.  A mua/model contacted him for an “edgy” shoot.   She had a bunch of facial piercings and wanted to don an old fashioned wedding gown and then go to a local tagging spot and paint a portrait.   It sounded like a cool concept so I readily agreed.

 We met at her house where Julie Ruckman was going hair…corn rows and a mohawk.  The hair took a long time so I was able take my time doing her makeup.  It turned out pretty cool over all.    

 I really liked the location and it seemed like a unique idea.  We got some good wall shots and some cool shots of spray paint.  Take a look!

High School Senior Portraits and Makeovers??

The photographer I work with, Pete Springer, has been getting a crazy amount of requests from High Schoolers wanting him to shoot their senior portraits.  It’s been kind of cool to be able to do makeup for these and help them have more creative poses and looks than the standard “mall” photography.
