Another Editorial… yay! :) Saturday, Dec 12 2009

I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Jaime Ibarra, a fantastic photographer here in Portland, OR a while back. It was just a fun creative shoot or so I thought. He wrote me a month or so later letting me know that one of our images was chosen by Prime Magazine in China.

Jaime was chosen to be the subject of an editorial spread and they featured 10 of his images. Luckily, one of our collaborations made the cut. I was so excited! Another tear for me and an international one to boot! Yay! :)

Here is the image and layout….

We did a follow up project a month or so later. It was a clothing shoot for an Afghanistan clothing company. Kind of random how we ended up shooting it but I’m really excited to see the edited versions of Jaime’s masterpieces.

New Editorial work Thursday, Dec 10 2009

My editorial work with Albertina Kerr (the print ads) are now out and about. They turned out fantastic thanks to Andy Batt-photographer, Joey Talatou – Stylist, Therese Geitler – producer, and myself on hair and makeup. Great team always makes a great end result. :)

These ads were for Albertina Kerr’s “Angel” program… celebrating individuals who help the agency with at risk kids and various programs. They do really good work there.

Carl Evans and Kira Pinski… an amazing team to work with! Sunday, Dec 6 2009

I recently did a shoot with the most amazing team.  Carl Evans, an amazing local photographer,  and Kira Pinski, a very talented local hair stylist. I wasn’t really clear on the concept when I got there but as the day started, I was astounded at how things just feel together. Rio Wrenn brought her incredible clothing creations, Kira produced her beautiful wigs, and added with the styling of Rebecca Westby and beautiful models and me, we had a truly out of this world day.

Below are just a few of the images I have received so far…

I’m so excited to see what other incredible and breath taking images Carl has to produce. Kira’s work on the hair pieces was outstanding and I’m so proud of our team! :)

Ripped off again… Monday, Nov 23 2009

The last few weeks have been an induction into the world of stolen images.

First of all, I was tipped off that some makeup artist had posted 4 of my images on his model mayhem profile, claiming credit for the makeup. Funny thing was, they were images I had had up for years prior to my web site redesign. I went to his page and commented on each picture and then reported each image to the MM moderators. The photographers I worked with all reported him as well. Ultimately, model mayhem deleted his profile. I was still stunned that 4 of 7 images were my work and that he was getting jobs from them.

The part I find most humorous is that they weren’t even my best work. My thoughts are if you are going to steal images, at least steal the good ones. :)

Then last week I received an email from a model letting me know that images from a shoot we did in Feb were in an Australian online magazine… used without the photographers permission and edited horribly. They were truly awful. I wasn’t sure I should laugh or cry and was actually grateful that I didn’t have a makeup credit.

The front cover is from our shoot as well as the back cover. Note the added bows… such a nice touch. ;)

Portland Monthly Friday, Nov 20 2009

I found out today that an editorial spread I worked on in Sept actually was published in Oct. I had to do some online research before I found the spread. It was an editorial on John Haines, the Executive Director of MercyCorps NW.

Andy Batt was the photographer for the shoot and he always does such a great job. He really captured this guys heart and essence.

First TV Commercials Tuesday, Nov 10 2009

Yay!  After much blood, sweat, and tears I am pleased to announce that my tv commercials – ads where I have done hair and makeup have “officially” aired.

The job was with Sockeye Productions and the client was Albertina Kerr.

The director was the awesome James Westby and I was so excited to finally get the chance to with such an amazing director.  Check out the footage!!!

Beauty Shots Wednesday, Apr 22 2009

I have been working with one of my favorite  photographers,Pete Springer for a few years now and my new agency has not been very fond of any of the beauty shots taken.  Today things changed.  They not only liked the beauty shots but actually added them to my file.  My agent feels I have much stronger images in my port but I was pleased she finally saw some redemptive stuff from this photographer.

These are some shots of a girl named Haydn. She has just signed with an “agency” here in town. I say that in quotes because the “agency” is not a real agency and charges a ton of money to get started. I was sad when I heard her mom tell me all the stories they told this girl and all the promises they made that will never happen.

Needless to say, these images are a huge improvement over ones in the past and I was delighted to have them added to my file. I would so love to see this photographer succeed and if not here, then somewhere else.

Head shots and not so good models Monday, Apr 20 2009

I have been doing tons of headshots the last few weeks and have been enjoying the process. I worked with a photographer friend of mine, Pete Springer, a few weeks ago and we were both excited to work with this model from Mode. She’s african american which delighted me since I desperately need women of color in my book.

Since she was from Mode, I expected her to walk in and deliver her “A Game” meaning some stellar modeling. Not so much…. Even though we changed hair and makeup repeatedly, we basically got one look for the whole day. I was so disappointed to say the least…

Here’s the best photo of the day!

The New Wave of Photoshop…. Monday, Mar 30 2009

So one of the photographers I work with, Pete Springer, showed me a new photo editing program he has. You select an image and you mark the main features and then the program basically uses an algorithm and changes to the face to meet society’s conception of “beauty.” I was amazed when I saw it in action and promptly sent over my picture to be analyzed.

The program didn’t make too many changes… it basically spaced my eyes a little further apart and gave me a more rounded chin. I didn’t notice much change in my nose which is my least favorite feature I might add. I was pleased it didn’t touch my lips or my eye shape. :) It did, however, get a little crazy on the skin smoothing.

Check out the pics…

Apparently, another program is soon to follow that will do the same thing with the body. We will all then be able to have longer, thinner legs and bigger breasts… all with just a click.

I’m not sure what I think of it to be honest… a little eerie. Isn’t it our individuality, our unique features, what makes us beautiful? Are we really all supposed to look “perfect” like dolls? I don’t think so…
